On Wednesday 18th June our project manager, Matt Scade, went to the houses of parliament and had the pleasure of meeting 2 of our local MPs, Adrian Ramsey for Waveney Valley and Ben Goldsborough for South Norfolk. They discussed several topics, including PIP reforms and Local welfare support, the winter fuel payments, and most importantly, our campaign alongside Trussell’s ‘Guarantee the Essentials’. We think this is a really important matter for discussion because right now, 9.3 million people are facing hunger and hardship across the UK. The basic rate of Universal Credit does not cover the cost of the essentials people need to survive, and is a big driver of severe hardship. We were hoping to meet with Jess Asato from Lowestoft, but unfortunately, she was speaking in the commons and couldn’t attend. We’ve reached out to her for a private meeting to discuss it.
